We’re still here and alive, but unfortunantly haven’t had much progress on a track. We haven’t seen much interest from other drivers in the area lately. We’ll keep the site alive so continue to spread the word.
If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or just wanna chat, head on over to our forums!
If you have a cellphone (who doesn’t these days?), we have a UPOC SMS group setup to use as a quickie way to shout out to other folks about getting together to race/bash some cars someplace. If you wanna join, head over to the UPOC group today!
We have 2 more members sign-up, bringing us a wee closer to our goal. So thanks to our latest supporters.
And lastly, we won’t be able to make the Sunday meeting unfortunantly. Some personal matters have come up with both Michael and I that have us tied up the whole weekend. We’ll plan on a get together some other time though, maybe at a track or at Lost Creek.
Wanted to give a shout out to the folks at the RC Hobby Shop down in Sugar Land for putting up a flyer for us on the door and counter

Thanks to the supporters who signed up on the site. So far we’ve got 4 signed up. I’ve heard from 3 other people who expressed interested in the project, but haven’t signed up yet. If you’re onboard for the project, please be sure to signup.
Next up, we’ve been poking around looking for dirt. If/when we get around 20 members we then have to find dirt to build our track. We’re looking at needing about 200-300 cubic yards of clean/select fill.
I’ve contacted a few pool companies and construction companies and got few phone numbers of excavators. I also contacted a couple Craigslist leads offering dirt for sale, and also called the Sprint Sand and Clay mines. Our cheapest quote right now is around $8/cubic yard for Select Fill dirt (the good stuff). Otherwise our best hope is to find a excavator willing to give us and dump dirt for free. Ironically, dirt is not dirt cheap.
Lastly, we’re going to see about having a meeting at the Space City field on September 7 at 1pm, so those interested can come and check out the field and meet everyone. We’ll post once we have that confirmed.

Today we went out to the Space City R/C field to meet with Finnis, the club president, to briefly talk about the idea of adding an off-road track to their club field. We also met RC Pat and Basherspitcrew from HoustonRC.com, among other club members.
First we have to say we were pretty impressed with the excellent facilities the Space City R/C club offers to club members. There is a long sheltered pit area along the flight line with tables, power, and water. There’s also a covered kitchen area complete with fridge (nice to keep your drinks cold, adult or otherwise!) microwave, and a huge BBQ pit.
The guys we spoke to are open to the idea of bringing a track back to the club, but on the condition of us financing the track construction through new club member fees, which is $230 the first year and $180 thereafter (See note below). While we know $230 represents a significant investment, we feel the benefits are worth it. We figure that we need 20 new members to make this track a self-supporting enterprise — not only for the money side, but we can’t do this alone!
We also realize that some folks might think 20 people is a lot to get started. It’s really not. If we can’t assemble that small number, it shows us that there may not be as much demand for a track as we thought.
If you’re interested about getting a track in this area, and can commit to joining the Space City R/C Club, please sign up to show your support.
Membership fees 1st year: $150 dues + 50 Registration + $30 ROAR = $230
Afterwards: $150 dues + $30 ROAR = $180/year
Club members under 18 years of age only pay $15/year dues if not parent is not already a member. If parent is a member, dues are $5/year.
Great news today. I fired off an email to the Space City R/C (map) club president this morning on a whim proposing an R/C track at their 12 acre complex in Northern Katy. We got a prompt reply showing interest in considering a track. They used to have a track, and ironically just tore down the old driver stand 3 months ago.
We’ll be attending their Club meeting at the field this Sunday to meet with them, check out the facilities and go over the ideas.
We’ll post more details later, but in short it looks like it would a club owned track. Drivers would need to join the club and ROAR to be able to use the track.
Hi folks,
Today we spoke to Steve Dorman, Parks superintendent for Harris County Precinct 3 Parks. In short, our proposal was turned down for an R/C track at George Bush Park. The main problem is the reservoir is federally owned wetlands that is controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers. The county actually leases the property from them for use as a park.
Also, the Corps apparently has a 25 year plan in place for the park, which they are currently reworking, so everything is on hold.
So our next plan of attack is to look at other parks in the Katy area and contact them regarding a track.
Our goal here is to rally up support for the building of a R/C track at George Bush Park in West Houston at a Katy Public park for the residents of the Katy and Cinco Ranch area.
The park currently has a R/C Airfield for R/C plane flyers, but nothing for car/truck drivers. Since there here’s no privately owned R/C track in the Katy area, we’re hoping we can get a Public Park to fill this void.
